Wildfire smoke can be more likely to cause flight delays than rain or fog, even when your local skies look perfectly clear. That’s because smoke can travel hundreds of miles to cut visibility at airports far from the flames, trigger ground stops and airspace closures, and even wear on aircraft engines.
