A strong earthquake struck off the Pacific Coast of Mexico and Guatemala shortly before 11 a.m. EDT Friday.

The magnitude 7.3 quake was about was about 30 miles southwest of Aquiles Serdán, Mexico, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Local tsunami waves of 1 to 3 feet are possible along parts of the Mexico and Guatemala coasts, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Tsunami waves up to 1 feet are possible along the Pacific coasts of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru.

The USGS expected at least moderate damage along the southwest coast of Mexico's Chiapas state.

Videos showing shaking and some damage were beginning to show up on social media.
