ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Besides air quality concerns, today shapes up to be one of the better weather days this week.

Wednesday: The Driest Day

Expect a mostly clear sky with afternoon highs reaching the 90s for most. The key difference? Dewpoints will drop into the 60s, which means the air will feel less sticky. Heat indices will hover near the actual air temperature or just above — a welcome relief in mid-August.

Thursday: Still Dry, But Watch for Storms in the North

Thursday continues the drier pattern with highs again in the middle 90s. However, a cold front approaching from the north could bring some storm chances to north Georgia later in the day or evening. Heat indices could approach 105 degrees in parts of middle Georgia, but most of north Georgia should stay below that mark.

Friday: Showers and Storms Return

The pattern changes Friday as moisture increases and storm chances go up. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. Dewpoints will climb back into the 70s, pushing heat index values over 100 degrees for some with actual highs in the 92-96 degree range.
