Extreme heat, wet soils and severe weather could threaten pumpkin crops nationwide this year, especially in Illinois – the nation’s top pumpkin producer. This July was the warmest on record for the contiguous U.S., and Illinois saw its sixth-wettest June along with a record number of tornadoes. The result could be smaller harvests, thinner selection, and higher prices at pumpkin patches this fall.
