We’re about a month away from the earliest opening days, but the people in charge at Aspen Snowmass wants you to get on snow earlier than that.

Riding and skiing returns to Snowmass this weekend. On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the Makaha Terrain Park will reopen. There will be rails and boxes set up for rippers of all ability levels.

Best of all: it’s free to ride.

Coney Express will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Riders can carry their gear to the lift then walk down to the terrain park. Walk to the Snowmass Mall via the road at the end of the day. There won’t be any food or drink for sale, and the number of open facilities will be limited.

The crew at Snowmass is able to do that thanks to snow that was preserved with Snow Secure insulated blankets after the end of last season.

This is a test run. The Snowmass crew wanted to test the Snow Secure blankets to see how well the technology could preserve snow. In the future, the blankets will be deployed in the early season.
