A quick-hitting round of snow dumped up to seven inches of snow in parts of Tennessee, north Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia after dumping some locally heavy snow in parts of Arkansas in early January 2021.

This system has been named Winter Storm Katherine by The Weather Channel.

The storm's highest snowfall occurred on Jan. 7-8 in the southern Appalachians from eastern Tennessee to the western Carolinas. The system had modest amounts of cold air and moisture.

The storm was first felt as it moved through the mid-Misssippippi Valley on Jan. 6-7.

Up to 7 inches of snow has been reported in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas. Parts of southern Missouri reported 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Up to 7 inches of snow fell in parts of eastern Tennessee, near Gatlinburg. In Jonesville, Virginia, 5 inches of snow accumulated.

The storm rolled off the coast of the Carolinas by late on Jan. 8.
