1. Mid-Summer Cold Front On The Way

No, this isn’t a summer-ending cold front, but some lower temperatures are on the way for a large section of the Plains and Rockies.

The change will begin on Monday as the cold front begins to nose into the Northern Plains and Northern Rockies. Highs will drop down into the 60s and 70s by midweek.

Unlike many summertime cold fronts, this one may have some legs. It could bring some modest relief to much of the Midwest and even parts of the South by the end of the week.

Some of this relief will come in the form of additional rainfall and cloud cover as the cold front loses steam over the South.

Don’t expect the summertime temperatures to be wiped out on the Gulf Coast or the Interstate-95 corridor, though.

2. The Last Of The Extreme Heat In The South

The Deep South won’t see any major changes any time soon, but temperatures will trickle down this week.

Highs in the 100s have been commonplace for Texans recently, but there and across the South, afternoon temperatures will slowly nudge lower the next few days.

While modest changes, highs will range from the low to mid 90s from Texas to Florida by mid-week. A few lucky communities will only get into the upper 80s by late week due to the cold front mentioned above.

3. West Coast Heating Up

We all knew it was coming sooner or later, but the heat is building from the Desert Southwest to the Pacific Northwest.

In California, southern Nevada and Arizona, the excessive heat warnings are already up. Temperatures may climb into the 110s for the Desert Southwest.

Farther north, record highs are likely in portions of the Willamette Valley of western Oregon, where highs will push into the 90s to around 100 degrees Wednesday.
