Many parts of the country are enjoying tranquil weather this Labor Day weekend, but some are sweating through a late-summer heat wave or are dodging showers.

Labor Day could be record hot as far east as the Interstate 95 corridor: Record highs could be set in parts of the mid-Atlantic from Virginia to New Jersey with highs soaring into the 90s. Record heat will also continue across the Great Lakes and upper Midwest on the holiday. Temperatures there will be within a degree or two of where they were on Sunday – from the mid-90s to the 100 mark for most.

Here's where showers could interrupt plans Monday: The wetter weather in the West will continue to move northeastward. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks will likely see showers and thunderstorms, and storms are also possible in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Showers and thunderstorms will also be possible across the lower Mississippi Valley as the stagnant low pressure system remains stuck in place.

Areas shaded in pink will see temperatures above 90 degrees during the day while green indications areas where rain is possible.
