L.A.'s Record Breaking 90s Give Way to Fall's Return

It may be fall in Los Angeles, but thermometers around the region showed summer-like temperatures on Wednesday and again on Thursday.

In fact, a number of towns reported record-breaking temperatures on Wednesday:

  • Long Beach climbed to 93 degrees, breaking the old record of 89° set in 2007
  • Burbank reached 95 degrees, breaking the old record of 91° set in 1974
  • Santa Barbara hit 85 degrees, breaking the old record of 84° from 1949
  • Camarillo tied the record of 92 degrees originally set in 1949

Downtown Los Angeles was four degrees shy of tying its record of 96 degrees set in 1933. The hottest location was San Gabriel, which peaked at 97 degrees.

The steamy temperatures continued on Thursday:

  • LAX broke a daily record, topping out at 90°.
  • Burbank reached 92°, breaking the daily record high, the second 90+ degree day in a row.

Saturday's Highs

Fall Returns Over the Weekend

As the jet stream dips southward across the western states Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will turn much cooler.

Highs in the 60s or low 70s are expected from Saturday into early next week, closer to the average mid-November high of around 73°.

This air mass change will not be accompanied by significant rain. Only some patchy drizzle or light rain showers, at most, are expected Saturday.
