F​looding rainfall and severe storms will continue to batter the South in the wake of yesterday's destructive straight-line wind damage and possible tornado damage in the Houston metro area.

S​howers and thunderstorms in association with a low pressure system are spreading through parts of the South at this time. B​elow is the latest radar showing where storms are now as well as any severe weather watches and warnings that are in effect.

Y​esterday evening, this system pushed a swift-moving squall that produced widespread damage in the Houston metro from a combination of destructive straight-line winds and possible tornadoes. See the link below for full details on the impacts.

Severe Weather, Flood Forecast Timing

F​riday-Friday Night: Severe weather may end the workweek as the storm system tracks eastward. Wind damage, hail and an isolated tornado threat might develop in the lower Mississippi Valley and Gulf Coast regions.

H​eavy rainfall could also produce more flash flooding in many of the same areas that might see severe weather. Portions of eastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi and southern Alabama are particularly at risk for excessive rainfall through Friday night, but at least an elevated flood threat extends as far south as the northern Gulf Coast, and as far north as the Ohio Valley.

S​aturday-Saturday Night: Flooding rain and a few severe storms might continue in association with this system. Locally damaging winds and an isolated tornado threat might affect parts of the Southeast states, as shown below.

Localized flash flooding is possible in many of the same areas at risk for possible severe storms.
