The first real polar plunge will begin across the Central and Eastern U.S. by early in the week ahead. For Saturday, the cold air is focused across the Upper Midwest, where highs in the 20s and 30s are expected. Minneapolis’ forecast high of 35 is running about 10 degrees below average. The bitter cold air spreads south for Sunday, where temperatures in the 30s are possible for cities like St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, which are nearly 20 degrees below average. By Monday, this spreads through the rest of the East, where highs in the 30s and 40s spread to cities like Atlanta, Nashville and Little Rock, Arkansas.
