The New York Botanical Garden’s orchid show is one of the many signs that spring is officially upon us.

“The Orchid Show” is the largest exhibition of orchids in the U.S. and is currently in its 11th year of showing. This year, designer Francisca P. Coelho transformed the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory into a rainforest oasis.

There are more than 7,000 orchids representing 3,075 types from all over the world, including Australia, Africa and South America in the Gardens’ permanent collection.  Orchids are incredibly adaptable and can grow in nearly every habitat, including Arctic tundra. They also range in size form 1/16 of an inch in diameter to flowers more than 25 feet tall.

In addition to orchids, the exhibition features waterfalls, canopies of palms and ferns and damaged tress from Hurricane Sandy as a nod to wild orchids.
