Tasmanian Devils Enjoy Cold Treat Amid Australian Heat Wave

(Perth Zoo via Storyful)

It may be breathtakingly cold in much of our country (and hemisphere) at the moment, but down in the Southern Hemisphere, temperatures are soaring. As they reached 95 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, workers at Perth Zoo helped many of the animals there find novel ways to cool off.

In the footage above, you can see two of the zoo's Tasmanian devils enjoying a bucket of ice. This pair, named Makena and Cooee, seemed to enjoy both the ice and some tasty meat hidden inside it. Officials from the zoo said that activities like this don't just help the animals cool down: They also help keep them mentally stimulated based on natural behaviors.
