Firefighters Rescue Bedraggled Kitten From Storm Drain

Make way, ducklings ... evidently kittens can get stuck in storm drains too.

(Grand Junction Fire Department)

We get our fair share of stories about first responders rescuing adorable little ducklings who get stuck in storm drains, this time of year. But ducklings aren’t the only animals that get stuck down there! In Grand Junction, Colorado, a hodgepodge group of good samaritans, animal control officers and the local fire department came together to extricate a bedraggled and curious kitten who found itself stuck deep in a local storm drain.

Photos shared by the Grand Junction Fire Department on social media show first responders removing the cast iron grate and climbing into the storm drain in order to bring the distressed feline back up to terra firma. The good news is that the kitten seemed to be in good health, and the other good news is that there weren’t any lost ducklings stuck down in the storm drain at the same time as the little predator.

“It’s moments like these that show the strength of our community and the power of teamwork,” the Grand Junction Fire Department wrote. “Whether it’s people or pets, we’re always ready to help.”
