A dog being fostered by a Colorado family went missing on Sunday night, and on Monday, he was found, but there was a hitch: He had become trapped in a deep trench. Multiple agencies collaborated to do whatever it took to rescue the pooch and, within hours, Carl the dog was free again.

Firefighters, animal control officers and even a construction crew (complete with large equipment) all pitched in to help Carl’s rescue. After Carl was safely back up on the ground, he was taken to a local veterinary emergency room, where he was treated for mild dehydration and spent the night.

In a post to social media, first responders said that Carl is expected to make a full recovery. He has been returned to his foster home with the local organization Big Dogs Huge Paws.
