A routine snow day in Saginaw Township, Michigan, took an unexpected turn when police officers found themselves caring for an unusual guest: a 20-pound pig that had wandered away from home.

Animal control officers are now searching for the owner of the friendly pig, which was discovered roaming around the Lawndale Estates mobile home park after approaching a resident who was shoveling snow.

Police believe the approximately 20-pound animal is a well-cared-for pet that likely escaped from somewhere nearby. Officers have placed the pig with Saginaw County Animal Control to help locate the owner and check for any missing pet reports.

"It's definitely a pet because it actually smells like vanilla," said Sgt. Brian Anderson, who spent time caring for the animal before it was transferred to animal control. "I don't know if they sprayed perfume on it or something, but I mean it's well cared for."

The department embraced their temporary guest with good humor, posting on social media and jokingly referring to the pig as their "newest recruit." Anyone with information about the pig's owner is encouraged to contact the Saginaw Township Police Department.
