Denali Names Newest Sled Dog Litter

What do Mesa, Sequoia, Rainier, Mammoth and Teton all have in common? Yes, they are all names of national parks. And now they are — also — the names of the newest crew of adorable sled dog puppies living in Alaska's Denali National Park.

The U.S. Department of the Interior shared a video of the stinking-cute little guys from their enclosure. The footage is a reminder that up in Denali, there's still a little bit of snow left on the ground.

Wondering how these little guys are doing as they grow up? Well, there's good news for you. Denali has a puppy live cam going, so you can see what kind of escapades this pack is getting into. Just remember the time difference, and if it's morning where you are, don't be surprised if these dogs are still asleep!

These adorable pups aren't just smooshy faces — they're future members of Denali's working sled dog team, the only remaining dog sled operation in the National Park Service. The kennel program at Denali has been running since the 1920s, originally established to help rangers patrol the vast wilderness areas that vehicles simply can't reach. As these puppies grow over the coming months, they'll begin their training to become essential partners in park operations, helping rangers navigate the backcountry during Alaska's long winter months when snowmobiles and other motorized vehicles are prohibited in the wilderness areas of the park.
