Founded in 2006, Abseilon is a group of rope access technicians who are in charge of cleaning Skywalk, a 10 foot wide horseshoe-shaped glass bridge that extends 70 feet out of the Grand Canyon. Visitors can look through the glass platform to see the 4,000 foot drop. It might be a scary view for some, but it’s safe. The glass platform is strong enough to bear the weight of seventy Boeing 747 jumbo jets.

In order to maintain that clarity and thrill factor, eight Abseilon technicians clean the underside of the glass bridge. That means they’re hanging 4,000 feet above ground. This year, the technicians were dangling off and under the bridge while visitors enjoyed the view.

“Members of the public are usually shocked, entertained and amazed when they see the clean,” said Ken Piposar, the CEO of Abseilon.

When the company first started cleaning the Skywalk, the entire job took around a week. Now, they’re able to complete the task in less than 24 hours.
