At least 10 sections of Houston roads were reported closed on Wednesday morning, down from the dozens that were closed on Tuesday when Beta made landfall. There were reports of flooded homes in southeastern Harris County Wednesday.

Residents in the Houston area were advised to stay home through Wednesday morning, and non-essential city employees had a two hour work delay Wednesday morning. Houston Independent School District closed its facilities Wednesday but continued remote learning, and several other area school districts were also closed.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued disaster declarations for 29 counties on Monday as Tropical Storm Beta brought major flooding to Houston and surrounding areas. Rescue crews conducted nearly 100 high-water rescues in Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle. South of the city saw over a foot of rain.

Beta also brought coastal flooding to Galveston and Port Arthur Monday and Tuesday, and brought minor flooding to parts of Louisiana, including Cameron Parish, which was devastated by Hurricane Laura last month.

Beta was downgraded to a tropical depression and is expected to head across southeastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, southwestern Tennessee, western and northern Alabama Wednesday through Thursday. The system will head into the southeast by Friday.
