An October winter storm brought damaging ice, damaging trees and causing power outages in parts of central and southwest Oklahoma Monday and Tuesday. More than 260,000 homes and businesses were without power in the state as of late Tuesday morning, according to poweroutage.us.

The October winter storm, named Winter Storm Billy by The Weather Channel, is currently bringing snow and ice from New Mexico into the Southern Plains, and will continue to spread snow and ice from the southern Rockies into parts of the Southern Plains through Tuesday night.

Parts of the intermountain West saw the early season snowstorm this weekend, with snow totals measuring up to 20 inches across the region.

Denver only received 3.6 inches of snow from the weekend and into Monday, but temperatures in the city reached a record low on Tuesday, at 8 degrees, according to KDVR.com. Temperatures throughout the state were frigid Tuesday, with Walden reaching a bitter -22 degrees Fahrenheit.

The snow has helped firefighters in their battle against two of the largest wildfires in Colorado history. The snow extinguished smaller fires, especially near the larger blazes.
