Hurricane Iota made landfall as a Category 4 storm near the town of Haulover in northern Nicaragua late Monday.

Hurricane Iota is responsible for at least 40 deaths in Central America after the storm made landfall as a Category 4 storm near the town of Haulover in northern Nicaragua late Monday. Iota comes just two weeks after Hurricane Eta unleashed deadly flooding and landslides on Central America, killing 120.

Iota brought maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, tearing off roofs and knocking down trees and flooding streets with torrential rain.

The storm brought more landslides to the saturated region, which tore through buildings and homes and left thousands homeless.
