The latest winter storm is causing traffic headaches in the Midwest as it brings snow and strong winds on Thursday.

A 40-vehicle pileup shut down eastbound Interstate 80 between Colfax and Newton in central Iowa Thursday afternoon as Winter Storm Peggy hit the area. Several semi-trucks are seen jackknifed and overturned in photos from the scene.

State troopers responded to several crashes on I-80 and I-35 as the strong winds and snow created whiteout conditions in parts of Iowa.

The storm will continue to affect Minnesota, Iowa, eastern Nebraska, Wisconsin, northern Illinois, Michigan, northern Indiana and northwest Ohio Thursday into Thursday night. A blizzard warning was issued north of Des Moines, and winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings stretch into the upper Midwest and east to Chicago and Milwaukee.
