Tropical Cyclone Yaas came ashore in the Indian state of Odisha at about 10:30 a.m. local time Wednesday.

Six deaths have been blamed on Tropical Cyclone Yaas so far. The cyclone came ashore in the Indian state of Odisha at about 10:30 a.m. local time Wednesday.

A 50-year-old man was killed when a tree branch fell on him in Odisha Wednesday morning, according to the Times of India. Two others were killed when they were hit by uprooted trees and another died in a house collapse in Odisha state, according to The Associated Press. Two other people died Tuesday in West Bengal after being electrocuted by fallen power lines, and on Wednesday, another person died in a house collapse in West Bengal State.

The storm damaged about 20,000 mud houses and temporary shelters in West Bengal, the state's chief minister, Mamata Banerjee said, according to Reuters.

The tidal surge inundated 200 villages in Bangladesh and trapped thousands of people, AP reported.

More than 20 villages were flooded in Ragabali in southern Patuakhali district after two river embankments were washed away, according to the area's top administrator, Mashfaqur Rahman. He also added that at least 15,000 people were seeking aid in cyclone shelters.

Photos out of Digha, Ramnagar and Kolkata show people wading through high floodwaters. Photos from Odisha show damaged food stalls and those used for selling goods.

Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from low-lying areas into shelters on Tuesday ahead of the storm.

Yaas made landfall just 10 days after Cyclone Tauktae hit India's west coast, killing more than 140 people. It also complicates the devastating COVID-19 surge in the country.
