Grace has regained hurricane strength and is poised to make a second landfall, this time in central Mexico, by this weekend.

Hurricane Grace brings threats of flooding rain, storm surge and damaging winds. A hurricane warning is in effect for the coast of mainland Mexico from Puerto Veracruz to Cabo Rojo, and a tropical storm warning extends from Cabo Rojo to Barra del Tordo. Conditions are expected to deteriorate starting Friday afternoon into the evening.

Some areas could see storm surge of 3 to five 5 above normal tides, and rainfall totals could reach 6 to 12 inches or up to 18 inches locally in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Grace made landfall near Tulum in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 1 hurricane Thursday morning, bringing maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

Photos show downed trees and signs thrown to the ground in Playa del Carmen and in Tulum by the storm's heavy winds.

The storm brought heavy rains and winds to Haiti earlier this week, mere days after an earthquake killed more than 1,400 people in the island nation where the displaced are still sleeping outdoors.

Earthquake survivors have been living in the streets as many have been rendered homeless from the quake's damage or are afraid to go home as aftershocks continued. Grace delivered a second punch on Monday, soaking Haiti in inches of rain, complicating rescue efforts and making the night much harder for the displaced.
