Many will trek to see fantastic views of fall foliage this autumn, but perhaps the best vantage point is from a hot air balloon.

Drone photos show hot-air balloons over changing fall leaves in Turkey's Cappadocia region. The region, located in Nevsehir province, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The landscape is made even more otherworldly by the area's distinctive hoodoos that stand up to 130 feet tall. Locals often refer to the structures as "fairy chimneys." According to an article by Smithsonian Magazine, the hoodoos were formed by a volcanic geologic process millions of years ago. Volcanic ash hardened into a porous rock called tuff and was covered by a layer of basalt. The tuff wore down over millions of years, with the basalt eroding more slowly than the tuff, giving the hoodoos their distinctive mushroom-like shape.

But that's not all that's interesting about the region. Ancient peoples used the hoodoos as dwellings and early Christian churches, eventually becoming, as UNESCO describes, "one of the world's most striking and largest cave-dwelling complexes."
