Hurricane Rick was downgraded to a tropical depression after making a Category 2 landfall.

Hurricane Rick was downgraded to a tropical depression after making a Category 2 landfall about 15 miles east of Mexico's port of Lazaro Cardenas around 5 a.m. Monday.

Photos show washed out roads in Infiernillo, Mexico, and locals coming home to damaged houses on Tuesday in the aftermath of the storm.

According to the Associated Press, authorities in Lazaro Cardenas had opened six emergency shelters for people to escape low-lying areas during the worst of Rick's wrath.

Rick weakened as the storm moved further inland, but brought the potential for flooding rain, Reuters reported.
