Hundreds are dead and dozens remained missing in the Philippines days after Super Typhoon Rai hammered several islands in the archipelago, leaving widespread damage.

The death toll increased to 375 Monday as authorities got more information from the hardest-hit areas. With food, water and gas supplies dwindling, aid was desperately needed as the survivors of the storm worked to clear damage and find shelter.

The super typhoon made landfall Thursday on the island of Siargao with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph – the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane. It forced nearly 200,000 people to evacuate ahead of the storm's arrival, and many more were left homeless due to the storm's powerful winds and fierce flooding.

Many of the victims were killed by landslides, flooding, falling trees and walls collapsed by the storm, according to the Associated Press. More than 50 people were still missing on Monday, the report added.
