Fire crews are working to contain growing wildfires in Southern California as temperatures rise amid an intense heat wave gripping the West.

Two of the largest wildfires, pictured in the gallery above, are the Route Fire in the northwestern Los Angeles County town of Castaic, and the Border 32 Fire burning about 200 miles to the south, not far from the U.S.-Mexico border.

The fires have been blamed for a combined 10 injuries – most of whom were firefighters overcome by the intense heat, according to the Associated Press. Several structures have been destroyed by the flames, the report added.

Hot, dry conditions are expected to persist through the Labor Day weekend and beyond, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits in Southern California.
