Winter Storm Diaz, In Pictures

A​ winter storm is bringing snow to the Northern Plains and Midwest, prompting blizzard, ice and winter storm warnings.

P​hotos show the closure of parts of Interstate 70 in Colorado due to the storm, which has been named Winter Storm Diaz by The Weather Channel. Several roads were closed throughout northeast Colorado as the storm brought snowy conditions to the state.

W​inter storm Diaz forced the closure of Interstate 80 on Tuesday from central Nebraska to the Wyoming border. Nebraska saw blizzard conditions which made driving hazardous. Interstate 90 remained closed on Wednesday from the Wyoming border to Chamberlain except for Rapid City exits 55 to 67, according to South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The storm brought feet of snow to parts of the mountain West since the weekend, with parts of Utah's Wasatch Mountains measuring over 20 inches. South Dakota's Black Hills received close to 2 feet in some areas, and a no-travel advisory was issued in central North Dakota Tuesday due to low visibility and whiteout conditions.

Diaz dumped up to 5 feet in the Sierra Nevada and more than half a foot of accumulation was measured in the mountains of Southern California over the weekend.

B​lizzard warnings are in effect in parts of five states, including western Nebraska, eastern Wyoming, southeast Montana, western South Dakota and far northeast Minnesota, while winter storm warnings, wither storm watches and winter weather advisories stretch as far east as the upper Midwest, northern Great Lakes and parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Ice storm warnings are posted for northwest Virginia, northeast West Virginia, western Maryland and a small portion of west-central Pennsylvania.

T​he storm will head into the Northeast next, and may bring up to 18 inches of snow to high-elevation places in the interior Northeast like Killington, Vermont, beginning on Thursday.
