These Homes Were Encased In Ice During Winter Storm Elliott (PHOTOS)

W​inter Storm Elliott's strong winds kicked up water from Lake Erie, encasing homes and buildings in ice during frigid temperatures. Photos show the jaw-dropping phenomenon taking place along Lake Erie's shores, from Buffalo and Hamburg in New York to Port Stanley, Canada.

O​ne of the buildings affected by the ice is Hoak's Restaurant in Buffalo. Insider reported that the restaurant owners said this is not the first time the restaurant has been covered in ice. This time, the Hoak family prepared for the storm by boarding up the windows to protect from debris and falling trees. They plan to remove the ice before it melts to avoid damage and to open their doors to patrons as soon as possible.

On Friday, Buffalo-Niagara International Airport clocked a peak gust of 71 mph during Elliott, and on the Buffalo Skyway Bridge, there was a 79 mph gust measured on the same day. Temperatures in the area have been below freezing since Friday, with the coldest low temperatures reaching 5 degrees on Friday, and 4 degrees on Saturday.
