Officials in West Pensacola, Florida, said a child was killed Tuesday night when a large limb from an oak tree fell on a mobile home. The child's identity has not been released, but Escambia County Emergency Management confirmed the death.

As it pushed ashore, the storm also caused flooding from storm surge and heavy rainfall along the coast. Gordon is expected to move northwestward for the next few days, impacting Arkansas before an expected turn to the northeast.

Prior to the storm's arrival, states of emergency were declared in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
