Florida is one of the states hit most frequently by hurricanes, providing plenty of opportunities to look back at these events and remember just how horrific they can be.

The State Archives of Florida posted several photos on their website that show the damage and response to historic hurricanes, some from long before forecasters were capable of giving citizens enough warning to evacuate. The photos offer an incredible look back, more than 100 years in some instances, at the devastation past hurricanes have caused.
