As of Thursday evening, the Category 2 hurricane made its first landfall between Cape Lookout and Beaufort, North Carolina. It is expected to travel off the coast of Eastern Massachusetts on Independence Day and into Saturday.

Some showers and isolated thunderstorms could hit Boston and Eastern Massachusetts Thursday night, but most of Arthur’s impact is expected to hit the region Friday afternoon and much of Saturday.

Arthur should make its closest approach to Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island late Friday night or very early Saturday morning. The center will likely stay appreciably to the southeast of these areas.

In anticipation of Hurricane Arthur, Boston has already rescheduled one of their big Independence Day festivities: the annual Boston Pops Fourth of July outdoor concert and fireworks show.

Officials have moved that show to July 3rd, rescheduling the event for the first time in 41 years. However, inclement weather on Thursday could force officials to reschedule the event to Saturday.
