A Fort Lauderdale postal worker was hurt Friday when lightning hit too close to her vehicle.

The city tells The Weather Channel she was sitting inside her mail truck on East Commercial Boulevard when the bolt hit close, sending a charge of electricity through the vehicle.


Lightning strikes inside the storms in South Florida Friday.


She was touching part of the car at the time and sustained burns.

Paramedics responded and took her to Broward Health with what was described as serious injuries.

As weather.com meteorologist Chrissy Warrilow explains, if you're in a vehicle during a storm, "It's important to fold your hands and in your lap and avoid touching anything inside the car."
