Severe thunderstorms damaged homes and caused several injuries across the Deep South over the weekend.

A chain of severe thunderstorms pushed through the Southeast on Sunday, bringing heavy rain and damaging wind. A dozen tornado warnings were issued, and at least two tornadoes were spawned.

Multiple trees and power lines were toppled in the storm's wake on Sunday. Thousands were left without power during the afternoon and evening hours, and injuries were reported.

Here is a state-by-state breakdown of the most significant severe weather reports.

Alabama

Reports of downed trees and metal roofing near Lakepoint Resort State Park in Barbour County were attributed to a tornado, per social media:

The tornado was confirmed by a survey team from the National Weather Service. The team concluded it was an EF1 with winds as high as 110 mph.

 

Georgia

 

Severe storms tore a swath across the middle of the state, from the Alabama border in the west to the South Carolina border in the east on Sunday afternoon and evening.

 

The Logan's Landing subdivision sales office in Thomaston was destroyed by severe storms as they moved through the area. NWS officials confirmed the damage was from an EF2 tornado, though the survey was ongoing Monday afternoon.

Upson County, which includes Thomaston, sustained significant damage during the storm. According to Upson County Sheriff Dan Kilgore, the damage was contained to Logan's Landing, where three or four houses suffered extensive damage. As of Sunday night, about 200 homes within the county were without power.

The Upson County EMA reported injuries after a home was damaged via Twitter.

According to Eastman law enforcement official Jimmy Joines, an Eastman firefighter was injured while attempting to open a bay door manually during a power outage. The firefighter was conscious when EMTs transported him to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known at this time. 

Sgt. Daniel Ransom of the Thomaston Fire Department reported downed trees and power lines within Thomaston city limits.

At one point on Sunday, more than 14,000 Georgia Power customers across several counties statewide were without power.

The National Weather Service reported a tree was downed on a home in Columbus. Multiple trees were blown over in Columbus as well as in Taylor, Crawford and Upson counties, between Columbus and Macon.

A tree was downed on a home in Louisville according to a 911 call center report, the NWS said. The NWS also reported a mobile home was blown 25 feet off its foundation and deroofed near the middle Georgia hamlet of Browndale. Another home near Browndale sustained damage, including blown out windows. Multiple trees were uprooted and downed across several counties.

The Chattahoochee Valley region around Columbus experienced power outages and additional downed trees, WTVM-TV reported. 

Trees were downed and storm damage was reported in Cusseta, according to WTVM. The NWS issued several tornado warnings for areas between Columbus and Macon Sunday afternoon.

As the line of storms marched east it prompted severe thunderstorm warnings for dozens of counties in central and eastern Georgia. Weather.com meteorologist Nick Wiltgen said that two of the warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City Sunday covered more land area than any storm-based warnings ever issued by that office since the office began testing the polygon-based warnings over a decade ago.

A gas station near Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters tournament, was heavily damaged by high winds as the storms approached the South Carolina border after sunset.

South Carolina

Storms marched east into South Carolina Sunday evening.

A pine tree fell onto a truck in Greenwood shortly after 7 p.m. No warnings had been issued for the storm, but the National Weather Service in Greer had issued a special weather statement advising of 45-mph winds.

Power lines were reported down in downtown Columbia around 7:30 p.m.

Texas

Overnight Saturday and into early Sunday morning, parts of Austin, Texas, experienced nearly six inches of rain.

The Austin American Statesman reports that the Austin Fire Department rescued three people from a car stuck in a flooded low-water crossing Saturday night.

Early Sunday morning, a driver was swept away by rushing waters in Austin, but managed to reach a tree and wait for help to arrive, KXAN says.

The Lower Colorado River Authority reported up to 5.5 inches of rain on the east side of Austin. Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches fell throughout the Colorado River drainage basin in central Texas, according to LCRA data.

According to The Associated Press, San Antonio was also hit with heavy rains overnight that downed two power lines and led to about 150 power outages.
