Winter Storm Riley slammed the mid-Atlantic, Northeast and New England as a powerful nor'easter over the weekend, knocking out power to more than 2 million while hindering travel, both on the ground and in the air.

The intense storm knocked down trees and power lines that collapsed into homes and vehicles, causing widespread damage in the Washington D.C. area and up into the Northeast. At least nine people were killed by falling trees and branches.

Thousands of flights were canceled up and down the Eastern Seaboard because of the storm.

Along the New England coast, flooding was a serious concern before the storm arrived, and it caused widespread issues Friday. Streets were flooded, rescues were performed and residents were evacuated because of the rising waters that crashed ashore and invaded inland.

Coastal flooding was reported as far south as Puerto Rico, where high tides brought water ashore and inundated some areas Sunday afternoon.
