Atlanta's Ice Storm Nearly Derailed the 2000 Super Bowl

On Jan. 22, 2000, an ice storm paralyzed Atlanta just eight days before the city was set to host the 2000 Super Bowl. Half a million people lost power, trees crashed onto homes and power lines, and the city's hilly roads became impassable. Then, a second ice storm hit the Friday and Saturday before the big game, disrupting practice for the St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans and threatening one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.
