Officials at the Angelsey Sea Zoo were shocked when a rare Olive Ridley sea turtle washed ashore near their facility.

The female turtle, named Menai, was rescued and brought in for emergency care, according to the zoo’s Facebook page.

The species of the turtle was announced on the UK zoo’s Twitter page Tuesday.

Olive Ridley turtles are listed as “vulnerable” due to the fact that they nest in a limited number of places, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Any disturbance to even one of the animals’ nests could have major repercussions throughout the entire population.

Menai is the first of her species to ever be recorded in the North Wales area since records began in 1748, according to the zoo’s Facebook page.

Named for the olive green color of its skin and shell, Olive Ridley turtles are typically found in warmer waters such as the southern Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, according to National Geographic. The species is the smallest of the sea turtles and weigh up to 100 pounds.

Veterinarians from the Bodrwnsiwn Vets have been treating Menai and reported Wednesday that she is considerably stronger than she was over the weekend
