A rare geomagnetic storm caused the northern lights to be seen over the continental United States on Sunday night. This aurora time-lapse was seen over Erie, Pennsylvania. The beautiful sight appeared overhead following a coronal mass ejection from the sun, which was detected on Friday. These northern lights could possibly be seen as far south as California and Alabama.
