The competition is dedicated to the art of panoramic photography, and it is the largest competition for panoramic photography. The Epson International Pano Awards website explains that advances in digital photography and editing software has made image stitching and panoramic photography a much more popular medium.

Entrants submitted images from across the globe, featuring landscapes, architecture and wildlife photography. The overall winner, Max Rive from The Netherlands, won for his image taken from an ice cave in the Himalayas. The overall winner of the amateur category was Mateusz Piesiak from Poland for his photograph of egrets feasting on fish, while the blur of many gulls ascend into the sky.
