Saying "I Do" at Mass Mountaintop Wedding

If there's any truth to the saying "The couple who plays together, stays together," thenColleen and Marcus Williams' Valentine's Day mountaintop wedding definitely put them on the right track.

Colleen is an avid skier. Marcus loves to snowboard. Tuesday, they joined 60 other couples at Colorado's Loveland Ski Area to tie the knot during a group ceremony called Mountaintop Matrimony.

"We love to ski. We love being in the high country," Colleen said. "We are in our element."

Marcus said the mountaintop wedding seemed like a perfect fit for he and Colleen because skiing and snowboarding was one of the things they'd always done together as a couple.

"It seemed like the natural progression," he said.

The ceremony was held at Loveland's Ptarmigan Roost cabin, which stands 12,500 feet above sea level on the Continental Divide. A priest conducted the ceremony, complete with vows, a ring exchange, and the traditional first kiss. Then, instead of couples dodging rice or bubbles outside a church, these adventurous pairs slid under a canopy of raised ski poles and rode down the mountain as couples.

Tuesday, the couples got a taste of winter at their outdoor wedding.

"It was snowing heavily on and off with a little bit of wind," Marcus said. "But the snow was excellent."

The weather didn't cause a problem, but Colleen's dress was a bit of a challenge.

"The most difficult time I had was holding it," Colleen said, laughing, explaining how she had to clutch onto her ankle-length dress for the ride down. "I kept my bouquet on my ski pole."
