Kai Rizzuto, 16, who lives in Brooklyn, managed to pull in the massive marlin, known as a grander, after a 30-minute fight off the coast of Kona.

"I'll tell you, it was the hardest 30 minutes I've ever fought a fish," Rizzuto, who visits his grandfather on the Big Island ever year, told HawaiiNewsNow.com. "When I saw that fish at the end of line I was just thinking: don't break off; do not break off."

Rizzuto, grandson of Hawaii-fishing author Jim Rizzuto, is thought to be one of the youngest fishermen to ever reel in such a monster fish, GrindTV reported.

The marlin, which measured 11 feet, was dead after the struggle so its meat was shared with local residents.

The boat's captain, McGrew Rice of Ihu Nui Sportfishing, called the catch, "the fish of a lifetime," according to NBC News. "That's like hitting a grand slam home run in the last inning of the World Series."
