NCAA Week 9 Weather Forecast: Rain Likely In Northwest, Storms Possible In South

While the NFL's slate of games will avoid weather hassles Sunday, that's not the case for several college football games, including some big matchups. Here's what could happen this weekend.

College football's lineup of Saturday games features several that could be soaked by rain, while weather will give the NFL's lineup a break.

There will be two areas of rain this weekend — one in the South and the other in the Northwest.

Let's take a look at some of the bigger matchups and see how the forecast could affect each game.

No. 8 Ole Miss vs. No. 13 Oklahoma

(12 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma)

One of two big games in the SEC on Saturday, the Sooners will host the Ole Miss Rebels.

Hopefully, the field at Memorial Stadium will be covered before the game. A real soaking is forecast for central Oklahoma through Saturday morning.

As far as the game itself, the steady rain could give way to just periodic showers or thundershowers. So, if you're headed to the game, pack rain gear and know that a lightning delay is possible.

This wet forecast could give a boost to the Sooners' defense, ranked No. 1 in the nation in both fewest yards allowed (213 per game) and tied for most sacks (28). They could use that boost. The Ole' Miss offense is averaging almost 500 yards per game.

No. 3 Texas A&M vs. No. 20 LSU

(7:30 p.m. ET at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana)

The SEC's other big matchup may also have to contend with rain.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected in much of western and northern Louisiana Saturday evening. The thunderstorms may be more scattered in southeast Louisiana, including Baton Rouge. At any rate, bring rain gear to the game and know that one or more lightning delays are possible.

LSU's defense has only given up about two touchdowns per game so far this year. A wet field could help them slow down an Aggie offense averaging 36 points a game.

No. 23 Illinois vs. Washington

(3:30 p.m. ET at Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington)

November is typically the wettest month in Seattle. Saturday will feel like that.

Rain is likely when the University of Washington hosts the 23rd-ranked Fighting Illini. If that wasn't enough, expect winds from 10 to 20 mph, and we can't rule out a thundershower, which could lead to a lightning delay.

It will be interesting to see how these two offenses in the top half of the Big Ten handle the wet turf at Husky Stadium.

Wisconsin vs. No. 6 Oregon

(7 p.m. ET at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon)

Similarly, it will be a rainy, breezy game in Eugene, where the 6-1 Ducks host the Wisconsin Badgers.

As if the struggling Badgers didn't have enough to worry about. They're averaging only 13.3 points per game, the third-worst offense in the nation, have been shut out the past two games and have a nine-game Big Ten losing streak.

And now, they're facing a Ducks offense averaging 44 points a game, second most in the nation. When it rains, it pours.

No NFL Week 8 Weather Issues

While there will still be that pair of wet systems in play Sunday, none appear to be in places where NFL games could be played outdoors.

The Seattle Seahawks are on their bye week, instead of possibly having to host a wet game like the UW Huskies will on Saturday.

And, for now, rain looks to hold off in Charlotte, where the Carolina Panthers will host the Buffalo Bills, and also in Cincinnati, where the Bengals will host the winless New York Jets.

Rain should also hold off in Pittsburgh Sunday night, where the Steelers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers will host the Green Bay Packers.
