Wakeskater Brian Grubb has taken his extreme sport to some spectacular places around the world—from a snow-covered mountain in Bosnia-Herzogovina to the rice terraces in the Philippines. He has even wakeskated rare "icebergs" in Cape Cod, Massachussetts. In October, he went to Pamukkale, Turkey, a city known for its hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water, to ride the famous Cleopatra Pool.

Located within the Pamukkale-Hierapolis complex, Cleopatra Pool is now a popular tourist attraction, visited by bathers who believe its warm waters offer healing properties. Here, visitors can swim among marble ruins from the nearby Temple of Apollo, which fell into the spring during 7th century AD. Grubb made this stunning location the setting of his latest wakeskating endeavor (no ruins were ruined during his ride).

"I look at spots with water around them differently than most people," Grubb told Red Bull. "I'm always looking for new places to ride and a lot of times those are fountains and spillway drops. As wakeskaters we're ideally trying to find natural spots that have drops or ledges so we can do skateboard-style tricks down them."

But the Cleopatra Pool proved tricky. "It was a very shallow pool with pillars and rocks just below the surface," said Grubb. "Getting the rail built and then set up every day was probably the biggest obstacle we faced."
