Some people can barely stand on a surfboard for more than a second. But the impressive team of Lauren Oiye and Chuck Inman take surfing to a new level, performing acrobatic stunts while gracefully maneuvering the waves of Hawaii.

The pair participated in the Tandem Surfing competitions in Waikiki, Hawaii, where they won both the ITSA World Tandem Tour Title and the ISA World Championship Title in 2012. This year, the daring duo came first in the Duke’s OceanFest ITSA Waikiki Tandem Pro competition, leading with 13.23 points, according to the association’s Facebook page.

“We attempted to create lifts that have never been done before,” they told Caters News. “This year we are so excited that many of those lifts we have created will be scored on the new lift chart.”

Oiye and Inman combine incredible balance with unique gymnastic poses without falling over. While individual skill and finesse are crucial, their balance is dependent on one another, especially when someone is hoisted into the air.

“It definitely takes a lot of trust on both of us of each other,” they said. The waves themselves can change the way the poses are completed.

“Every wave is different and the way we surf it,” Oiye and Inman said. “And the lifts we put up are always different. It’s such a thrill!”
