Locals say the best way to experience the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt is on a camel. But Belgian athlete Cedric Dumont had other ideas. He got the best view of the Pyramids soaring from the sky as he performed the world's first-ever wingsuit flight over the iconic landmarks on Thursday, January 29.

Starting as a freefall, Dumont's feat developed into a wing-suit flight, ending up with an open parachute hovering in one of the most unique airspaces in the world. The Red Bull athlete then opened his helmet’s visor once he released his parachute to enjoy the view and unique sight.

As soon as his feet touched the grounds of Khafre, located between Khufu and Menkaure pyramids, the 43-year-old daredevil—who has performed more the 10,000 skydives and 2,000 BASE jumps—could not hide his genuine excitement about the flight, which, according to Red Bull, had to be approved by Egypt's Ministry of Defense.

"Flying over the Pyramids has such a mystical and unmatched energy, one of the most incredible flights I have ever performed," said Dumont.

This is not Dumon't first visit to Cairo—he had previously attempted a BASE jump from the Cairo Tower in 2012, which was canceled due to risky wind conditions.

Dumont's records include the first ever BASE jump from Lithuania's tallest structure, the 170-meter high Vilnius TV tower in 2009; the world's highest railway bridge in Montenegro (201m); the Royal Gorge Bridge in Cañon City, Colorado, the highest suspended bridge in the world (384m); and off the 431 meter-high Jin-Mao tower in Shanghai in a BASE wingsuit.

Not content with completing the highest jumps in the world, on the "flip side," Dumont has also recorded the world's lowest BASE jumps, including a free-fall jump from a height of just 35 meters.

Dumont has competed in the X Games three times, finished third in the Skysurfing World Cup and won the Brazilian Open of Skysurfing. He also has a degree in Applied Sports Psychology and coaches' professional athletes on the mental edge and skills necessary to achieve their goals and unleash their full potential.
