In the hot sun of Major League Baseball's spring training, anything can happen.

Nobody knows this better than Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward. During a game against the Seattle Mariners Sunday in Mesa, Arizona, Heyward was swarmed by bees while he stood in center field. Heyward swatted at the bees and even attempted to climb the center-field wall to get away from the swarm.

By the end of the ordeal, Heyward had been stung more than 10 times on his neck and face, he told the Chicago Tribune, but did not have an allergic reaction.

If anything, the bee stings had a positive effect on Heyward's game; he hit a home run in the bottom half of the inning and hit another home Monday. If he can handle it, this might be the beginning of a new pregame superstition.

The swarm of bees also chased the Cubs' relief pitchers from their bullpen from behind the left-field wall. For several innings, they were forced to share a bullpen with the Mariners in right field.

After that, the bees invaded the stands and chased many fans away for a brief period of time, Fox Sports reported said. Amid  the distractions, the Mariners would go on to win the game 12-9, and the players and fans got a story they won't soon forget.

"It was wild,'' Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel told ESPN.com. "I've never seen anything like that before.''
