Countdown of America's Best Swim Cities

With summer kicking into high gear, many Americans are craving a serious session in the nearest pool. And if you happen to live in one of the cities listed above, you have plenty of great options.

USA Swimming, the national governing body for competitive swimming, recently ranked the most swim-friendly cities in the United States.

The rankings are based on a combination of factors, including number of swim facilities and clubs, number of top-level swimmers in the area and percentage of the population who are active swimmers.

According to the report, Ann Arbor, Michigan, tops the list this year. Despite its brutally cold winters, the city still managed to produce more than 60 Olympic swimmers, including gold medalists Tyler Clary and Tom Dolan. In the last year, swimming participation statewide has grown 16 percent.

Former University of Michigan and Club Wolverine swimming coach Jon Urbanchek told USA Swimming he wasn't surprised by the results, "considering the strength of the swimming community and how many great swimmers and record hold have come out of the area."
