A handful of Colorado ski resorts have opened, and several more will open Thanksgiving Day, including Aspen Mountain and Snowmass.

After suffering through the 2011-12 winter with about half the usual amount of snow, Colorado ski resort operators say they are thankful for the recent snowfall from Winter Storm Brutus. The four-mountain area -- Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk -- received about 13 inches of fresh snowfall last weekend.

"Mother Nature shook the snow globe," said Meredith McKee, public relations manager for Aspen Skiing Co.

Temperatures have dropped as well, allowing for around-the-clock snowmaking.

On Aspen Mountain, snowmaking efforts have focused on the women's World Cup ski courses, McKee said. The Audi FIS Ski World Cup takes place there opening weekend, Nov. 24 and 25.

Expect for possible light mountain snow showers this weekend, the weather pattern through Thanksgiving Day won't be very active in Colorado, said Chris Dolce, meteorologist with The Weather Channel. However, he said, resorts in the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies could see significant mountain snows then.
