What Does A Cooler Atlantic Mean?
May 26, 2025
The eastern Atlantic is warming more slowly than this time last year. This piece of the Atlantic is important because it is where tropical waves come off of the African conveyor belt that produces tropical storms and hurricanes. We could see a limit placed on the number of tropical storms or hurricanes mid-season if water temperatures end up on the cooler side through August. If water temperatures warm quickly, though, an active hurricane season will be in store. The outlook for the upcoming hurricane season remains active.
